Chapter Banner Bearer

Presenting my latest work in a VERY long time! (I've been very busy!)
Phew! Finally done with this guy! This has gotta be the HARDEST model I've ever painted!
Well, here it is! The chapter banner bearer model from the Marneus Calgar Ultramarines Command Squad boxed set from Games Workshop.

Here's some fluff about him (made up by me, of course!):

*Ancient Septimus is the 21st and current bearer of the Banner of Macragge and hails from the underground hive world of Calth in the Ultramar system.

A veteran of countless battles, he was part of the honour guard during the Corinth Crusade. It was there that he saw Ancient Galatan, the 20th bearer of the Banner of Macragge, fall at the great breach of the final ork fortress of Corinth Prime. Enraged, he fought valiantly with the remaining honour guard to reach the greviously wounded Galatan. Such was his intense fervour that he was the first among the honour guard to reach Galatan and witness him slay the ork Warboss. Then, like two warriors of legend, Septimus and Galatan smote, greenskin blood spilt with every stroke and cleave of power axe and sword.

When the smoke cleared, the final battle of the Corinth Crusade was won, millions of Imperial troops pouring into the breach. It was then, that Ancient Galatan, who did not let the Banner of Macragge fall despite suffering seven grevious wounds, handed the sacred banner to Septimus and collasped, finally allowing himself to die.

It was after the campaign that the High Council of Macragge officially honoured Septimus with the sacred title of 'Ancient' and placed the Banner of Macragge, the Ultramarines' most sacred relic, in his charge. Imperial records state that the Lord Macragge Marneus Calgar, Chapter Master of the Ultramarines, personally unfurled the Banner and placed the legendary standard in Septimus' hands in a ceremony that was attended by the entire Chapter.

Since then, Ancient Septimus has fought in many more battles, always raising the Banner high, an awe-inspiring sight which spurs his fellow battle-brothers to greater acts of valour. Like all his predecessors before him, Ancient Septimus has never allowed the Banner of Macragge to fall despite how horrendous his wounds. With power sword in one hand and the Banner of Macragge in the other, Ancient Septimus fights with the greatest of valour. A magnificient personification of the creed of the Ultramarines: Courage and Honour.


* 'Ancient' is the title honoured to all the bearers of the Banner of Macragge, the most sacred of relics and Chapter banner of the Ultramarines.
